The Nighthawk was having the same issue. When I checked 'ipconfig /all' it said the DNS IP was 192.168.1.1 and it wasn't blocking websites. I made sure my public IP was synced with OpenDNS and OpenDNS Server IPs were entered correctly. Was about to return Nighthawk but decided to try one more thing.
This is not unusual for firmwares based of the Linksys SmartWifi model. IMO the Velop system will use the ISP DNS servers for it's built-in DNS Server resolution unless you specify DNS servers in it's DHCP Settings which should cause it to use those DNS servers instead.
